iGeek Tech Repair, Elk Grove

Screens, batteries, boards: phone repair in Elk Grove.

iPhone, Galaxy, Pixel, other Android handsets and iPads. Some jobs are a part swap at the counter. Others are corrosion, a dead charging circuit or a fault on the logic board, and those go to the microscope bench in the same shop.

Everyday repairs

What most people walk in with.

Drops and worn-out batteries account for most of what crosses this counter. Lithium cells lose capacity with age and with charge cycles, so the tell is usually a phone that shuts off at an odd charge level rather than one that slowly runs low. A replacement display gets checked for brightness, color and touch response across the whole panel before the phone is closed up.

We'll explain your part options before you decide.

  • We take appropriate steps to preserve supported device functionality such as True Tone, Face ID and Touch ID when the repair and replacement part allow it.
  • Aftermarket OLED and Apple original phone screens carry a 90-day warranty against manufacturer defects; drops, physical damage and liquid damage after the repair are not covered.
  • Aftermarket LCD phone screens carry no warranty.
  • For the iPhone 11 and X series and the iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation) we offer one screen: a high quality aftermarket screen with a 90-day warranty.

Technician soldering a laptop logic board under a microscope at the iGeek bench

Under the microscope

When the fault is on the board.

A phone that will not power on, will not take a charge, has lost its audio or went dark after a drop often has a fault somewhere other than the part that looks broken. Power management, charging and audio all run through small components on the logic board, and those can be measured, lifted and replaced. That is bench work under a microscope, and it happens here rather than being shipped elsewhere.

Advanced repair work is performed in-house where applicable.

  • Tracing a no-power or no-charge fault down to the component
  • Replacing charging, audio and power management ICs
  • Ultrasonic cleaning and corrosion repair after a spill
  • Backlight and display-circuit faults that look like a bad screen
  • Pulling photos and contacts off a handset that will not boot

  • IGeek is a great place to get your iPhone repaired. I thought that I needed a new charging port for my iPhone 11, but they were able to make my phone charge by just cleaning out the port. I highly recommend iGeek! Trenton always does a great job.

  • My son had decided it was good thing to shower with his iPhone - nope. Thankfully Igeek was able to help dry it all out and get it back to top notch working order. Ryan was super in helping us figure out the best solution to the problem and in such a timely manner. We were informed along the way how the progress was going and it got back in time for his trip to Los Angeles for his tournament. Thank you Ryan and Igeek team!

Phone repair in Elk Grove, the longer version.

Most phone faults land in one of a few buckets: broken glass, a tired battery, a port that has stopped making contact, liquid that got inside, or a component on the board that has failed. What follows is how each of those is approached, on iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other Android phones.

Phone repair for Elk Grove and Sacramento

The shop is on Elk Grove Blvd, and the phones on the bench come from across Elk Grove and Sacramento. Bring the device to the counter, or send a quote request first and describe what it is doing. Either way it gets looked at before anyone puts a number on the job. Ask about turnaround when you check in; it depends on the repair and parts availability.

When the symptom is vague, a diagnostic is the honest place to start: it separates a software problem from a hardware one and points at the component actually at fault. Phone and tablet diagnostic: $49, or $99 for liquid damage, data recovery and board repair, credited toward the repair when you approve it. We'll explain your part options before you decide. Standard repair warranty: 30 days unless stated otherwise on your ticket.

Glass, panels and batteries

Display replacement. Phone panels are OLED or LCD, and on many models both exist as replacement options, at different costs and with different color and brightness behavior. We will tell you which panel is going in before the phone is opened. Back glass is a separate job from the display and is possible on a good number of models. We take appropriate steps to preserve supported device functionality such as True Tone, Face ID and Touch ID when the repair and replacement part allow it.

Battery replacement. A lithium cell is a consumable. Capacity falls as cycles add up, and a phone that shuts down with charge still showing, or that runs hot doing nothing, is usually telling you the cell is finished. A swollen battery is pressing on the display from behind and should not be left in a pocket. We'll explain your part options before you decide.

When it will not charge

Charging port work. A phone that refuses to charge is often not broken at all: the port is packed with pocket lint and the cable can no longer seat properly. That gets cleaned out and tested first. If the contacts are worn, the pins are bent or the connector has been torn off its pads, the port comes off the board and a new one goes on, which is soldering work rather than a parts swap.

Liquid damage, cameras, audio and buttons

Liquid damage. Rice does nothing. The problem is not moisture, it is corrosion, and it keeps working on the board after the phone feels dry, especially where a sugary drink has left residue behind. Power the device off, leave it off the charger and get it to us. Boards are opened up, cleaned ultrasonically and inspected component by component. Some devices come back. Some do not, and you will hear that from us plainly once we have looked.

Cameras, audio and buttons. Rear and front cameras, earpiece, loudspeaker, microphones, the vibration motor, power and volume buttons and fingerprint readers are all replaceable parts on most phones. A dead speaker or microphone on a device with no other damage sometimes traces back to the board instead of the module, which is why these are tested before any part is ordered.

Data, transfers and the software side

Not everything that goes wrong is a broken part. We move data from an old handset to a new one, pull photos, messages and contacts off devices that will not start normally, and work through the software end of things: a phone stuck in a boot loop, an account or setup problem, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that will not hold a connection. Back the device up before a repair if it still lets you, because any board-level job carries some risk to what is stored on it.
