Old computer slow? Often the right SSD, RAM, or GPU upgrade is way cheaper than a new machine — and we install it the same week at our Elk Grove shop.
“My laptop OS had to be replaced and an SSD was installed. When I got it back, it was quicker at starting up and loading programs than when I first bought it. I was able to get it back the same day I took it in.”

Common Upgrades
What's making your machine feel slow?
Most 'my computer is too slow' situations are solved with a $100–$300 upgrade, not a $1500 new computer. The trick is knowing which upgrade actually helps.
5+ minute boot times
Computer takes forever to start? Almost always the old spinning hard drive. SSD upgrade is the single biggest speed gain you'll feel.
Browser tabs grind it down
Chrome with 10 tabs makes everything slow? You're out of RAM. 8GB → 16GB upgrade is usually the answer.
Drive is full
Running on 5GB free? Sluggish and crashing because the OS has nowhere to swap? A bigger SSD with your data migrated over is the fix.
Games drop to 20fps
Games look terrible or stutter? GPU upgrade — or if your PSU is weak, that too. We size both together so they actually work.
Fans always loud
Fans constantly spinning even when idle? Could be cooling failure, thermal paste, or undersized cooling for your CPU/GPU. We rebalance.
Old motherboard limiting you
Want a newer CPU but your board can't support it? We assess whether a board+CPU+RAM combo upgrade makes sense or if a new build is better.
Overheating
Computer shutting off from heat? Old thermal paste, dusty heatsink, or undersized cooler. We clean, repaste, and upgrade cooling if needed.
Multi-monitor adding lag
Adding a 2nd or 3rd monitor and the system can't keep up? GPU is probably the limit. Or sometimes a USB-C dock with proper bandwidth.
PSU concerns
Random shutdowns under load? Power supply might be failing or undersized. We test under load and replace with right-sized PSU.
Laptop running hot/slow
Laptops can usually still take an SSD and RAM upgrade — especially older Dell, HP, Lenovo business laptops. Mac upgrades are more limited but we'll tell you what's possible.
iMac storage stuck
Old iMac with a Fusion Drive or HDD running at a crawl? SSD upgrade is doable on most pre-Apple-Silicon iMacs and feels like a new machine.
Want to game on existing PC
Existing PC, want to start gaming? We assess what's worth upgrading vs starting fresh with a custom build. No upsell to new builds if upgrades make sense.
What We Upgrade
Every component, custom-fit.
Desktops, laptops, iMacs, custom rigs. We size the upgrade to your existing system so the new part actually fits and the rest of the machine can keep up.
SSD upgrade
NVMe M.2, SATA SSDs — fresh OS install with your files migrated over, so you keep what matters.
RAM upgrade
DDR4, DDR5, laptop SODIMM — compatible specs, dual-channel where supported.
GPU install
New graphics card sized to your PSU, case, and use case. See our GPU repair page.
CPU + board
When the platform itself is the limit — Intel/AMD board+CPU+RAM combo upgrade.
Power supply
PSU upgrade sized to your build, with appropriate cable management.
Cooling
CPU coolers (air or AIO liquid), case fans, repaste service, dust cleaning.
Storage expansion
Adding secondary drives, RAID setup for redundancy, external/NAS integration.
Laptop upgrades
SSD and RAM on most non-Apple-Silicon laptops. We assess what your laptop supports.
How it works
Four steps. Right-sized.
We don't just install whatever you bring in — we make sure the upgrade actually helps and that the rest of your system can support it.
Bring it in
Bring your computer or call us. Tell us what feels slow and what you'd like to do better. We'll know whether an upgrade or a full rebuild makes more sense.
System assessment
We inspect what you have — CPU, board, RAM slots, drive bays, PSU wattage, case clearance. The upgrade has to fit and the rest of the system has to keep up.
Quote + parts
We recommend specific parts (often with options at different price points) and tell you the labor cost. You can source parts yourself or have us source them for you.
Install + bench test
Parts installed, drivers set up, benchmarks run to verify performance gain. We don't hand it back until it's actually faster.
Why iGeek
Right-sized vs. upsell-sized.
Most upgrade options either push you to buy a new computer ($1500+) or oversell expensive components. We size the upgrade to your actual need.

Real Upgrade Stories
What customers say after upgrades.
“I have used Hammad a few times to repair laptops. My laptop OS had to be replaced and an SSD was installed. When I got it back, it was quicker at starting up and loading programs than when I first bought it. I was able to get it back the same day I took it in (I work from home and only had to miss out on one afternoon of work) Would definitely recommend!”

On Pricing
Labor + parts, separated.
Upgrade pricing is straightforward: a flat labor fee per upgrade type (SSD swap, RAM install, GPU install, etc.), plus the cost of the parts. Multiple upgrades in one visit get bundled labor.
You can source parts yourself (we’ll recommend specific models) or have us source them for you. If an upgrade doesn’t actually make sense for your machine, we’ll tell you before you buy parts.
For a typical “slow laptop” SSD + RAM upgrade with data migration, the all-in cost is usually well below the price of a new budget laptop, and the result feels like a new machine.
