  • Video and color work

    Cutting, grading and exporting put three separate demands on one machine. Smooth playback comes off the drive and the decode path, grading leans on the graphics card, and an export is mostly encode throughput. We ask which codecs you work in and whether you cut off proxies.

  • CAD, 3D and simulation

    Parametric modeling rebuilds largely on a single thread, so clock speed decides how a heavy assembly feels to move around. Rendering and simulation go the other way and use every thread on the chip. Your software sits somewhere between those two, and the balance follows it.

  • Compilers, containers and data

    A build that fans out across every core, a database held in memory, a stack of containers and a browser nobody ever closes: these compete for capacity more than for peak clock. Once memory runs short the machine starts swapping and all of it slows at once.

  • Models running locally

    Whether a model loads at all is a VRAM question; how quickly it answers is a bandwidth question. Tell us the parameter counts and quantization levels you expect to work with, and the card, the system memory and the power supply are chosen from there.

Component Lists

The name on the box is not the parts list.

Manufacturers revise what goes inside a product line between production runs. Memory and storage pricing in particular has been unstable, and a machine assembled during one stretch of that is not put together from the same components as one assembled during another. The model number printed on the chassis carries on regardless.

So the quote we write points at a specific list: brand and model for the board, the memory kit, the drive, the cooler and the power supply. If something on that list stops being available before assembly, we come back to you with the replacement instead of deciding it for you.

FAQ

Before you commit to a list.

Can I bring components I already own?
Customer-supplied parts are accepted, with no warranty or guarantee on the supplied part. If a graphics card, a drive array or a chassis is coming across from your current machine, say so early and the rest of the list is specified to fit around it.
Does it support ECC memory, or a second graphics card?
Both are platform questions. Threadripper and the workstation boards around it handle ECC, where a memory error is corrected rather than landing quietly in your output; on consumer AM5 the support is inconsistent and depends on the board. For two cards, the real limits are usually power delivery, the spacing between slots and how much heat the case can move, so we check those against the specific cards first.
What if something fails after I collect it?
Standard repair warranty: 30 days unless stated otherwise on your ticket. It comes back to the same bench in Elk Grove that assembled it, and the technician who put it together is the one who opens it up.
Can it be added to later?
Headroom is part of the spec. Memory slots left empty where the budget allows, M.2 sockets and drive bays accounted for, and a power supply with margin for a larger card later. Bring the machine in when you want that work done and we handle the install.
How soon can I have it?
Ask about turnaround when you check in; it depends on the repair and parts availability. Workstation components are more often ordered in than kept on the shelf, so we tell you which ones we are waiting on and which are already here.
