Common Network Issues

Sound like your situation?

Most network problems fall into one of these patterns. We diagnose the actual cause instead of telling you to 'restart your router' as a one-size-fits-all answer.

Dead zones in the back rooms

Bedroom or office in the back of the house barely gets signal? Old router + thick walls. Mesh or extender is the fix.

Drops out at random

Connection works for 20 minutes then disconnects? Sometimes router, sometimes interference, sometimes ISP. We figure out which.

Slow despite "fast" plan

Paying for gigabit but speedtest shows 50Mbps? Often the router is the bottleneck, sometimes wiring, sometimes ISP.

Just got a new router

Bought a new router and not sure how to set it up properly? We configure SSIDs, security, guest network, port forwarding — the whole deal.

New house or move-in

Just moved? We set up your network from scratch — modem, router, mesh nodes, ethernet, printer, smart home, the works.

Ethernet for home office

Want wired internet for your gaming PC or work-from-home setup? We set up and configure switches and wired networking. For in-wall cable runs, we'll connect you with a licensed low-voltage contractor and configure everything once the cable is in.

Small office network

Office of 5-25 people that needs reliable network, file sharing, printers, and guest WiFi? We design and install business networks.

Network security audit

Worried about who's on your network or whether it's secure? We audit and lock it down — strong passwords, guest separation, firmware updates.

Devices won't connect

Phone connects but laptop doesn't, smart TV refuses to pair, printer disappears from the network? Driver, channel, or compatibility issues.

Smart home / IoT setup

Smart bulbs, doorbells, thermostats, locks, and cameras all on your network? We help organize and stabilize the IoT side.

Security camera network

Setting up Ring, Nest, Wyze, or commercial cameras and need a stable network behind them? We design the network to handle it.

Mesh system install

Bought Eero, Orbi, Google Nest WiFi, or similar and want it set up right? We install and configure mesh systems including ethernet backhaul.

Equipment We Set Up

Routers, mesh, switches, the whole stack.

We work with consumer mesh systems, prosumer routers, business-grade gear — whatever fits your space, budget, and use case.

Consumer routers

Asus, TP-Link, Netgear, Linksys — the standard home routers people buy.

Mesh WiFi systems

Eero, Orbi, Google Nest WiFi, TP-Link Deco, Asus ZenWiFi.

Prosumer / business

Ubiquiti UniFi, MikroTik, Aruba — for offices and complex home setups.

Switches & PoE

Managed and unmanaged switches, PoE for security cameras and access points.

Modems

Cable, DSL, and fiber modems for Comcast, AT&T, and other ISPs — including bring-your-own-modem setups.

IP cameras

Ring, Nest, Wyze, Reolink, Amcrest, Arlo — network setup, not the install.

Smart home hubs

SmartThings, Hubitat, Home Assistant, Apple HomeKit network requirements.

Small business

Guest WiFi separation, VLAN setup, VPN access, network shared drives.

How it works

Four steps. End-to-end.

Networks aren't one-thing problems — they're a chain (ISP → modem → router → switch → endpoint). We diagnose the chain, then fix the weak link.

1

Tell us the situation

Call or come in. Tell us your space, ISP, what's not working, and what you're trying to do. We'll know whether the visit is shop or on-site.

2

Site survey + diagnostic

For dead-zone or coverage issues, we do a site survey to map signal strength. For setup, we plan the network topology before buying gear.

3

Gear + plan

We recommend gear that fits your budget and space — no upsell to enterprise gear if you don't need it. Quote includes labor and gear separately.

4

Install + configure

Equipment installed, SSIDs configured, security set up, devices joined, speed verified. Documentation of passwords and settings for your records.

Why iGeek

Done right vs. plug-and-pray.

Most network setup options either skip the survey (one-size router), oversell (enterprise gear for a 2-bedroom apartment), or just don't pick up the phone.

On Pricing

Labor + gear, separated.

Network setup pricing varies more than other services because the scope varies more — a single-router setup is a different job than a mesh-with-ethernet-backhaul for a 3,000 sqft house, and a 25-person office is different again.

We quote labor and gear separately, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. You can buy your own gear (we’ll recommend specific models) or have us source it for you. Either way, we right-size the recommendation to your space — no pushing enterprise gear on a 2-bedroom apartment.

For small-office setups, we provide a written quote after the site survey. For home setups, we usually scope it on the call.
