Pixels use OLED panels bonded to the cover glass, with the fingerprint reader mounted under the display on recent generations. A cracked panel is replaced as an assembly, and where the reader is part of that assembly it is set up again afterwards. Touch that fires without being touched, a strip of dead pixels, or a panel that stays black on a phone that still rings are all display-side faults worth confirming before anything more expensive is assumed.

Pixel cells age like any other lithium battery, losing usable capacity with cycles and with heat. A phone that was fine last year and now needs a top-up by mid afternoon is usually telling you about the cell rather than about Android. Heavy camera and mobile data use gets you there faster, which is worth knowing before you conclude the phone is finished.

Charging faults split three ways: debris packed into the port, a worn or bent connector, and damage further back on the charging circuit. The first is cleared, the second is a port replacement, and the third is board work. A diagnostic separates them instead of guessing, because the three are not remotely the same repair.

The camera bar stands proud of the back and takes the impact when a Pixel lands face up. Cracked cover glass over the lenses is a repair in its own right. A module that will not focus, or a telephoto that stays soft while the main sensor is sharp, points at the module rather than the glass, and the two are told apart on the bench.

Folding hardware has an inner panel with a crease, a protective layer over it that is not optional, and a hinge that dust gets into. Inner panels are expensive and delicate to fit, so we look at the device first and set out the realistic options before you commit to anything.
